ABOUT the artist
Shon Davis is a contemporary visual artist whose works focuses on texture, color, and the expression of the human face. Vibrant and detailed, her work often features a three-dimensional quality which invites the viewer into a more tactile experience of her paintings. Using charcoal and acrylic paint, she renders textures in both abstract and realistic subjects. Inspiration works itself into her paintings by way of passing faces, cultural diversity, and memorable cities.
An active art figure in the Rochester community, she holds memberships with many local galleries, and teaches art classes at the Creative Wellness Coalition in Rochester's Neighborhood of the Arts. As a member of the Art Factory Collective, she collaborates with a team of tri-state area artists to exhibit monthly during First Friday Rochester events.
Artistically, her goal is to invite the viewers of her work into a colorful world rich in texture and vibrance. She aims to not only experience art not only with the sense of vision, but the sense of touch as well.
One of Davis' major inspirations for her creative endeavors is travelling. An avid traveller, she is currently working on a series of paintings based on her travels to Central America, Fance, and New York City. Her work is currently on display at Rochester City Hall's Link Gallery, the Hungerford Building, the MuCC Gallery, and the Spot Cafe.
